The rising waters from Hurricane Harvey force residents from their home.

The student council is collecting cash donations to help support Hurricane Harvey victims from Houston being housed in Forest Home Baptist Church in Kilgore. The money will be used to buy Walmart and Brookshire gift cards to help supply food, water, and other necessities.

Houston is currently submerged. There are families still stranded inside their houses waist high in water. There are some nursing homes and hospitals trying to finish evacuating. Authorities have encouraged people to NOT move to higher floors WITHIN their houses, but to evacuate. They could become trapped and ultimately unreachable.

Even though water has begun to drain, Harvey is still sitting within the area. Houston is suppose to experience another round of intense rain but with low wind speeds. Harvey is then supposed to go back down to the Gulf and then head back towards the Houston area.

We, as Texans, can support our Houston family. We should welcome them with open arms and be as gracious as possible while still continuing with our daily routines. We, as members of the White Oak community, can support our student council and show our desire to better ourselves through helping others.
