This past Labor Day weekend, the Ladynecks hosted their annual Shirley Atkins volleyball tournament and took third place behind Tyler Lee and this year’s champion of the tournament, Beckville.

The tournament began on Thursday when half the teams competing, including White Oak, completed their pool games. Pool play continued on Friday for the other half of the teams and the tournament ended Saturday evening after a long day of bracket games.

During pool play on Thursday, the Ladynecks began the day by playing Spring Hill then later Sabine and gained the win for both games in two sets. White Oak then competed that afternoon against Lufkin and took the victory after three sets.

The Ladynecks played the first game of the top bracket on Saturday and were successful against Pine Tree in a 25-21, 25-9 match. Madison Sigmon made seven kills, followed by Kinsey Smith with five and Kyla Weeks with four. Brooklyn Noll led with 20 assists, while Macy Weeks added 15.

White Oak’s next game resulted in a loss to Tyler Lee in the semifinals in a three set match. Kaitlyn Reed and Smith both contributed five kills, Noll provided 24 digs and Macy Weeks had 15 assists.

In their last game of the tournament, the Ladynecks competed against White House in an exciting game for third, (31-29, 25-22.) Sigmon racked up 10 kills followed by Smith with seven, Reed with six and Macy Weeks five. Kyla Weeks had 32 assists and five kills while Noll dominated the back row with 24 digs.

The Ladynecks, 5-1 over the weekend, travel to Winona today.
