Cross Country team travels to SFA Invitational

The girls are back with a total of six out of the seven girls returning to represent the White Oak Cross Country team. Dylan Harris is the only boy that will be representing the Cross Country team this year.

The Cross Country team has been in full swing for a month now and recently came back with a third place finish in this past week’s meet at SFA. Cryslan Tucker lead the Ladynecks in the girls Varsity race finishing 2nd with a time of 13:12.

“This year has been such a game changer since now I can now take part in the team and help out on our team and help out on our road to state,” Tucker said about coming back from her injury last year.

Oliva Sipes followed to snatch 8th place with a time of 13:50.

“I feel like I’m finally getting to where I need to be for the season. Even though the first meet of the year wasn’t my best it was a learning process and I’m building from it,” Sipes said.

Shaynee Tyl came in 17th and finished with a time of 14:03, followed closely by Cecelia Hernandez with a time of 14:36. Katie Williamson finished with the place of 31st with her time of 15:17. Luisa Soto finished with a 110th place finish and a time of 19:14. The girls race had a total of 129 runners and the girls managed to get 3rd place as a team.

Since last year the girls team overall only lost one girl from last year but was joined this year by foreign exchange student Tova Melby.

“I liked running in Sweden and wanted to be involved, so I decided to join the Cross Country team,” Melby said.

Dylan Harris ran the boys open division that had 161 finishers. Harris placed 26th out the 161 runners with a time of 18:55.

Next week both teams will travel to Tyler to compete in the Tyler Lee’s Invitational.
