Layton Anderson will compete in the UIL Regional Swimming meet Saturday, Feb. 3. As a senior, this will be Anderson’s fourth time competing at Regionals. He will be going into the tournament as top seed. Anderson will be competing in several events during this weekend’s state qualifying meet,

“I will be swimming the two events that I qualified for at district,” Anderson said. “I will be swimming the 200 yard freestyle and the 100 yard butterfly.”

Anderson hasn’t won anything but gold at this meet his entire high school career and is confident in his abilities to maintain his dominant win streak this weekend,

“I am confident that I will perform well at regionals,” Anderson said. “There’s no way of knowing how well I will do for sure but I feel that my training had prepared me to win gold.”

Anderson hasn’t changed his training regimen for the meet, but instead is continuing to train as he did before the UIL season.

“My coach isn’t resting me at all,” Anderson said. “I’m training as usual. I’ll start resting the Tuesday or Thursday before the meet.”

Anderson is shooting for a state qualifying performance during this weekend’s meet.

“My goal is placing in the top 2,” Anderson said. “The top 2 athletes get to go to state.”

The community and school are in full support of Layton as he goes to compete this weekend and he is ecstatic for this opportunity to compete for his school and town.

“If I qualify for state it will be the perfect ending to my high school swimming career,” Anderson said. “And it will prove even more why I am good enough to be in collegiate swimming.”
